Simpson University Celebrates 140 Fall, Winter Graduates

REDDING, Calif.–Simpson University honored approximately 140 graduates during a Jan. 12 ceremony inside the James M. Grant Student Life Center.

It was the first Simpson commencement ceremony for new President Norm Hall, who began his role in June. “If you ever get to do that, it is truly a treat,” he told the crowd after conferring degrees and shaking hands with each graduate.

In his charge to the undergraduate and master’s students, he urged them, “Be the ‘big time’ where you are. Be … Christ … wherever you are, whatever you do — to raise families that respect and love one another and practice the principles taught by our Lord and Savior.”

The Rev. Ray Van Gilst, superintendent of the Central Pacific District of The Christian and Missionary Alliance and a university board member, was the commencement speaker, on the topic of “You Are Indispensable,” based on I Corinthians 12:14-25.

Simpson University traditionally holds commencement twice a year—an indoor ceremony in January for summer and fall graduates, and an outdoor event in April for spring graduates.
