Simpson University Welcomes Entrepreneur Tech Hub to Campus

REDDING, Calif.—Simpson University has signed an agreement with 511 Enterprises, a professional marketing, sales and customer success leader, to operate an Entrepreneur Tech Hub on campus that will provide learning, internship and job opportunities for students.

Chad McCulley, CEO of 511 Enterprises, employs over 40 people at a facility on Airport Road. An employee pod has been moved to the new Entrepreneur Tech Hub on the third floor of the Owen Student Services Center.

Prior to 511 Enterprises, he was a director of sales for a Silicon Valley start-up that attained $15.5 million in annual revenue in three years.

Described as a full-service business/talent growth center, 511 Enterprises offers professional services to more than a dozen Silicon Valley-based and global technology companies. A Simpson University partnership is a driving passion for McCulley.

“Above all, this strategic alliance is about doing what is best for the students,” he said. “We have a shared vision to serve this rich talent pool. By unifying educational and entrepreneurial resources, the students will gain practical insights and experience for their lives and careers.”

The Entrepreneur Tech Hub is an example of Simpson University’s desire to embrace innovation as it positions itself for new growth, said President Norm Hall, who took over as the university’s 15th president on June 1.

“Simpson University is a ‘Gateway to World Service’,” he said, referring to the institution’s longstanding motto. “Alliances will empower us to provide relevant education and experience to our students. The university welcomes the opportunity to prepare leaders for the information age. We are embarking on an exciting new chapter, and I am confident that Simpson’s best days are ahead of us.”

Tony Giovaniello, president of the Shasta County Economic Development Corporation, said he looks forward to what the Entrepreneur Tech Hub can bring to the North State.

“Redding is rich in talent, technology experience and educational resources,” he said. “The blending of key core competencies creates a synergistic and scalable model for the future. This new Entrepreneur Tech Hub is another step forward to drive economic empowerment in the region.”

511 Enterprises is the second business to move onto Simpson’s campus in 2018. Prometric opened a testing center on campus in January. The global testing and assessment company administers an average of 7 million exams a year for more than 3,000 organizations at 6,000 test centers. The company leases space from the university to operate its first Redding-based facility, which served more than 250 candidates taking nearly 330 tests during its first six months in operation.

The move to include businesses on campus is part of the university’s strategic plan as it heads toward its centennial in 2021.
