Simpson University Offers Lunch Talks on Brené Brown Book

REDDING, Calif.—Simpson University continues its On the Same Page common reading program with additional discussion events in February. The North State community is invited to attend these lunchtime forums.

Simpson students, faculty and staff are reading Braving the Wilderness: The Quest for True Belonging and the Courage to Stand Alone by research professor Brené Brown. Several local residents joined others on campus Jan. 14 for an introductory forum about the author and book.

The discussions continue in the Emeriti Dining Center on campus, where guests can purchase an all-you-can-eat buffet lunch and join the table marked with balloons on these dates and times:

  • Wednesday, Feb. 13, 12:40 to 1:40 p.m. Topic: “BRAVING”
  • Tuesday, Feb. 19, 11:50 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. Topic: chapter 4, “From Dehumanization to Rehumanization”
  • Tuesday, Feb. 26, 11:50 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. or Wednesday, Feb. 27, 12:40 to 1:40 pm. Topic: chapter 7, “Practicing Civility”

In addition, a multidisciplinary faculty panel will discuss the book at 6:30 p.m. March 20 (Wed); and a student panel will share at 1:30 p.m. March 13 (Wed) during the Student Research Symposium. Both sessions will be in room 204 of LaBaume-Rudat Hall. All are welcome.

Simpson University, founded in 1921, moved to Redding almost 30 years ago and will celebrate its centennial in 2021.
